We’re happy to share an interview with two talented artists we’ve welcomed to our music label for their compelling EP, Heartbreak Desert. As a producer, I had the privilege of creating a remix for this project, adding my take on its evocative, melancholic, and hopeful sound. Here, I sit down with Chook and Malek Mhedhbi to introduce you to these rising stars and their promising futures in music. Let’s explore their journeys, creative processes, and what’s next.
Fady One: Thank you for joining us today! We’re glad to have you here to share your stories, creative processes, and future aspirations.
“Chook: Thank you so much for having us! It’s truly an honor to be here and share our stories, creative processes, and future plans with you. We’re excited to dive into this conversation.”
Fady One: Let’s start with your roots. Could you share where you’re from, where you’re currently based, and how these places have influenced your artistry?
“Chook (Oussama):”
I’m originally from Tunisia, where I grew up surrounded by a rich tapestry of cultural influences—music, art, and storytelling were always part of my life. Right now, I live in Paris. The city has been a huge source of inspiration for me, blending my roots with new perspectives and opportunities. Living here allows me to explore different facets of creativity while staying connected to my Tunisian heritage.
“Malek Mhedhbi:”
I was also born in Tunisia, but I’ve spent a significant portion of my life traveling and living between multiple countries. Currently, I split my time between Europe and Asia. Each place I’ve lived in has shaped who I am as an artist—whether it’s the vibrant energy of North Africa, the discipline of European artistry, or the introspective calmness I find in Asia. These locations have all left their mark on my music and worldview.
Fady One: Your collaboration is clearly special. Could you take us back to how you first met and what sparked the connection that led to working together?
“Chook:”
We actually met through mutual friends back in Tunisia. At first, it wasn’t about music at all—it was more of a personal connection. We bonded over shared interests like films, literature, and philosophy. Over time, we realized how much overlap there was in our artistic sensibilities.
“Malek:”
Yeah, it started casually. But once we discovered that we both had this deep passion for music, things took off naturally. Our friendship became a foundation for collaboration. It wasn’t forced; it evolved organically as we began sharing ideas and experimenting together.

Fady One: When did you first start creating music together, and what was that initial collaborative process like?
“Malek:”
Our first musical collaboration happened almost by accident. One day, I was working on a track, and Chook happened to visit. He suggested adding vocals, and before we knew it, we’d created something completely unexpected yet cohesive. That moment felt special because it showed us how complementary our styles are.
“Chook:”
It did feel natural right away. There was no pressure—we trusted each other creatively, which made the process fluid. From there, we kept building on that chemistry, exploring genres and sounds that resonated with both of us. It wasn’t immediate perfection, but every step felt meaningful.
Fady One: You’re both incredibly prolific. Could you share what projects you’re currently working on and what we can expect from you in the near future?
“Chook:”
For me, I’m currently working on a solo project that blends electronic beats with traditional Tunisian instruments. It’s a fusion of modern production techniques and ancestral sounds, aiming to create something timeless yet contemporary. I’m also collaborating with some international artists, though I can’t reveal too many details just yet!
“Malek:”
On my end, I’m diving deeper into experimental soundscapes. I’ve been fascinated by blending acoustic elements with digital manipulation. I’m also preparing for a tour that will include stops in Asia and Europe, where I’ll showcase material from my upcoming album. Additionally, Chook and I are planning another joint project—a concept EP inspired by cross-cultural narratives.
Fady One: Malek, you’ve mentioned spending significant time in Asia. What drew you to the region, and how has it shaped your music and creative process?
“Malek:”
Asia holds a very special place in my heart. My relationship with the region started through travel—I was drawn to its diversity, spirituality, and depth. Music came later, but it quickly became central to my experience there. In places like Japan and India, I found not only incredible musicians but also philosophies and practices that deeply influenced my approach to art. For instance, meditation and mindfulness have become integral parts of my creative process. Living in Asia has taught me patience and adaptability, qualities that I bring into my music. Whether it’s learning traditional instruments or collaborating with local artists, every interaction enriches my work.
Fady One: Your live performances are known for their energy and innovation. Could you share how you approach your live acts, including any instruments you play, and what you envision for the future of your shows?
“Chook:”
Right now, I’m focusing on refining my live act. My performances combine electronic loops with live vocals and percussion, creating an immersive experience for the audience. I want people to feel transported—to connect emotionally with the music. As for the future, I dream of performing in unconventional spaces, like ancient ruins or intimate theaters, to enhance the storytelling aspect of my shows.
“Malek:”
I play several instruments—guitar, piano, oud, and even some traditional Asian instruments like the shakuhachi. Learning them came from curiosity and necessity. When I couldn’t find the exact sound I wanted, I picked up the instrument myself. Over the years, practice and dedication have helped me master them. On stage, I aim to create a dynamic, multi-layered performance that feels alive and spontaneous.
“As for the future, I envision expanding my live setup to include more visual elements, like projections or interactive installations, to make the experience even more engaging.”
“Dreams & Goals:”
Both of us share a vision of pushing boundaries in music. We want to keep exploring uncharted territories, whether it’s through genre-blending, multimedia projects, or global collaborations. Ultimately, our goal is to inspire others—to touch hearts and minds through our art.
Fady One: Thank you both for such an insightful conversation. As we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with our audience about your journey or what lies ahead?
“Chook & Malek: Thank you again for this opportunity to reflect on our journeys and aspirations. Art is a never-ending exploration, and we’re thrilled to continue growing alongside each other and our audiences.”
Fady One: To close, here are the two tracks that made me fall under the musical spell of these artists, and I’m eager to share more collaborations with them and other inspiring talents soon.
